New Mediums for Jean-Michel’s Expansive Imagination

Passion for Photography

It is well-known now that Jean-Michel used his passion for photography and contemporary art to create his beautifully unique designs for his silk fashion collections.

However, before Jean-Michel’s passing, he spent his time discovering new mediums to create his art for more unique designs.

Jean-Michel always had an endlessly creative mind which kept wandering, curious to discover new imaginative ways to capture unconventional art and share them with the world.

One of the mediums he was very fond of was painting. He would dabble with different colours and various paints on unprimed canvas. His hand wandered across the blank canvas as he used his memories of beauty across the world as his inspiration. Jean-Michel spent quite some time in his studio creating various paintings—from landscapes to abstract works of colour. Some of his works even replicate the reflections in water, a favourite focus of Jean-Michel when he took his photographs.

Jean-Michel discovered how much he loved creating paintings to fully express his vast imaginative thoughts. The creations he made are great examples of the profound talents of Jean-Michel.

When complete, he would take photographs of his artwork. These photographs would then go through a similar process as all the other designs he has created. Jean-Michel would digitally transform his photographed paintings and extend their abstract form. The result is a colossal and poetic-like display of intricate patterns and colours.

By Jean Michel created a new collection of scarves this fall, based on Jean-Michel’s best paintings and it’s called the Tribute Collection—in memory of Jean-Michel Gires. Have a look and see these new fashion pieces created from his new paintings.
